About Spring Fling

Swing-Out Edmonton is un-bee-lievably proud to present our tenth annual Lindy-hop workshop weekend. Four days with fantastic instructors, dancing, and classes to get dancers of all experience levels just buzzing with excitement! 

Our instructor line up this year is the bees knees! Please welcome: Gaby Cook and Nathan Bugh, Lainey Silver and Rafal Pustelny, and Katie Leatherberry and Gary Grimm. This weekend will also feature LIVE MUSIC!

Meet our instructors 

Gaby Cook 

Gaby is national-award winning dancer who is praised for her dynamic style and choreographic ingenuity. In her 10 years+ of professional experience, she has appeared on stages around the world, and has garnered various film and television credits. In addition, she is also lead choreographer for Gatsby Entertainment NYC, a entertainment production house, specializing in Great Gatsby theme. With a solid foundation of studio dance training, she has developed a unique style in lindy hop. She blends the raw, athletic power of lindy hop, with the grace and refinement of the movie musical-era. She brings great care to lines, shapes and balance in her personal performance, as well as her choreographic work. In New York, she is a cast member In the classroom, she shares her knowledge of the dance with a cheerful disposition, and clear straight-forward instruction. She is passionate about lindy hop traditions and works to share the joy of swing with new audiences.

Classes and Levels 

Levels

[Honeybee]

You’ve learned the basics of 6-count, 8-count, and Charleston, although you’re still working on ironing out the rough patches. When presented with a dance demonstration, you are familiar with copying the instructor’s movements. Your goals for this event are to refine your moves and improve your leading / following.

 

[Bumblebee]

You can smoothly transition between 6-count, 8-count, and Charleston. You can do a comfortable swing-out with some variations. When presented with a dance demonstration, you are skilled in adapting the instructor’s movements. Your goals for this event are to refine your dance skills and expand your dance move repertoire. [There will be a level check to join this class]

 

[Carpenter Bee]

You are comfortable dancing at a variety of tempos and to a variety of styles. You experiment with a wide variety of swing-out variations. When presented with a dance demonstration, you catch on quickly and you are skilled in making the dance your own. Your goals for this event are to experiment with moves, increase complexity of variations, and improve your musicality. [There will be a level check to join this class]
