We would like to acknowledge the history of where we are and of the dances we are celebrating.

 

We respectfully acknowledge that our events take place on Treaty 6 territory, and the traditional lands of many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people.

 

Also, what we teach and study is an African-American vernacular style of dance - this dance was and still is an expression of the trials and triumphs of the African-American community. We do not own these dances, and it’s our goal to celebrate them, their spirit, and their origins.
